World number 51 Jamie Jones recovered from being 8-5 down to beat former world champion Shaun Murphy in a deciding frame at the World Snooker Championship in Sheffield.

Jones had been 8-5 and 9-8 down earlier in the match but managed to produce and excellent comeback to bring about a deciding frame on table one at the Crucible Theatre.

With the scores score reading 9-9 at the end of regular play, Welshman Jones took the momentum from his recovery to eventually emerge triumphant thanks to a win in the deciding frame.

Following his victory against Englishman Murphy, Jones told BBC Sport: "I played really well in patches.

"Shaun got into his stride to go 8-5 up and I was shut out of the match."

Jones added: "I think it is my best victory.

"I have never faced pressure like I have today so I am so pleased to hold myself together and come through.

"It gives me loads of confidence."

In the simultaneous match on table two, Ding Junhui gave himself an advantage in an all-Chinese affair against Xiao Guodong and is now 6-3 up going into tomorrow’s session.

The day's scheduled early matches saw Northern Ireland's Mark Allen beat Liam Highfield of England 10-5, whileBarry Hawkins came out on top against Stuart Carrington by a 10-7 scoreline in an all-English affair that was completed in the evening session.

The other evening session saw England's Ricky Walden take a 6-3 lead against Belgium's Luca Brecel heading into tomorrow.
