A blind football camp will be held in the United States later this year in an effort to develop the sport in the country, it has been announced.

The initiative, designed to help introduce blind football in the US, has been established by the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) Football and the United States Association of Blind Athletes.

The development camp is scheduled to take place at the Maryland School for the Blind in Baltimore from June 25 to 29.

It is hoped it will tap into the growing interest in blind football in the US and in North America in general.

Participants from Canada will also be invited to the camp, which will be split into two sections.

The first will be a coaching clinic, with the other focusing on athlete development.

An experienced IBSA blind football coach will direct the camp, which will also serve as an identification event for future national team selections.

Coaches and athletes will be recruited from state schools for the blind and regional and national sports clubs from the US and Canada.

IBSA claim the involvement of a blind football official will ensure that North American coaches and athletes will have the tools to grow the sport across the region.

Neither the US nor Canada have national teams which feature in the IBSA world rankings.
