Czech biathlete Gabriela Koukalová has announced that she will miss the entirety of the 2018-2019 season.

The double Olympic silver medallist was forced to miss February's Pyeongchang 2018 Games due to a calf injury.

Koukalová, who won the overall International Biathlon Union World Cup title in 2016 and boasts two World Championship gold medals, said she lacked desire to compete in the next campaign.

She stopped short of calling time on her career entirely, however.

"I made a statement today that I'm leaving next season," the 28-year-old said on Facebook.

"I don't feel like racing physically or mentally, I have no inner desire to win.

"I want to do other things for a while.

"I'm not saying I quit my whole career, I might miss racing, but now I can't imagine coming back."

Koukalová has battled other health problems and has also been a vocal critic of Russia and the country's doping scandal.

In December she was attacked online after calling for a complete Russian ban from Pyeongchang 2018.
