The African Paralympic Committee (APC) hosted a meeting with the African Union Commission (AUC) in Angola's capital Luanda.

The purpose of the discussions was to assess the development of Para-sport across the continent.

Promoting the importance of sport for people with impairments was seen as a key part of the talks.

Delegates concluded the meeting by drawing up a road-map and action plan to outline the ways to move forward.

It is hoped that the support of African Union (AU) states can be counted on for a series of initiatives.

This could include an inaugural African Para Games next year.

"It is an honour and privilege to welcome you all to Angola for this historic meeting," said APC President Leonel da Rocha Pinto, himself an Angolan, in his opening remarks.

"This meeting is a follow up to a discussion held in Luanda between H.E Moussa Faki Mahamat, the AUC chairperson, and myself in my capacity as the President of the APC, seeking support from AU and its member states for the development of Para-sport in Africa."

Those taking part in the meeting also visited Angola's Minister of Youth and Sport Ana Paula da Silva do Sacramento Neto.

They provided her with more information on the work currently being done to boost African Para-sport.
