The ticket design for this year's FIFA World Cup in Russia was unveiled today by the world governing body.

All key match-related information, such as the fixture, stadium, date, kick-off and gate opening time, is printed on each ticket.

Key security elements including a barcode positioned on the right-hand side and a hologram next to the sector map will be printed on the ticket.

Tickets will be personalised, meaning that the name of the ticket holder will be printed on it and fans entering the stadium will have to show their FAN ID, the official free identity document issued to spectators, to gain admission.

Having a FAN ID gives fans additional benefits and services provided by the host country, such as visa-free entry to the Russian Federation, certain free inter-host city travel and free use of public transport on matchdays.

Gates for each match will open three hours before kickoff, with the exception of the opening match between hosts Russia and Saudi Arabia when fans will be able to enter four hours before the game starts.

FIFA announced earlier in the week that up to 1.7 million tickets had been allocated both to domestic and international football fans after the closure of the second period of Phase 2 of ticket sales on Monday April 3 for the World Cup.

Foreign spectators accounted for 53 per cent of that total.

Matches during the World Cup, scheduled to take place between June 14 and July 15, are due to take place at 12 venues in 11 cities.

There are two stadiums located in the capital Moscow while other matches will be played in Kaliningrad, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Rostov-on-Don, Saint Petersburg, Samara, Saransk, Sochi, Volgograd and Yekaterinburg.
