Colombia secured their place at this year's International Wheelchair Rugby Federation World Championship in Sydney with victory against Germany at the Qualification Tournament in Nottwil.

The Colombians ensured their place in Australia by following up yesterday's win against hosts Switzerland at the Swiss Paraplegic Centre.

They recorded a 54-47 win over Germany, whose qualification hopes are now over, in Pool A.

It meant Colombia booked a semi-final spot as one of the top two teams with four places available in Sydney in all.

The other Pool A match saw Switzerland beat Poland 54-53 in overtime.

Elsewhere, Ireland claimed a surprise win against Athens 2004 Paralympic champions New Zealand in Pool B.

Before the match got underway, the New Zealand Wheelbacks performed the famous New Zealand haka in a bid to intimidate their Irish opponents.

Ireland, however, did not let this faze them and eventually ran out 49-41 winners.

New Zealand managed to recover from their loss to Ireland by beating South Korea 59-40 in today's late match.

Earlier, Brazil had recorded a 54-46 victory over South Korea.

Action in Sydney will take place between August 5 and 10.

The event is scheduled to continue tomorrow with the final five group games set to take place.
