The South African Football Association (SAFA) have announced that vice-president Xolile Nkompela has been appointed as the governing body's acting President.

Nkompela will temporarily replace under-fire incumbent Danny Jordaan, who has flown to Madagascar for a Confederation of African Football (CAF) Executive Committee meeting.

Jordaan, head of the Organising Committee that delivered the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, is also expected to meet FIFA secretary general Fatma Samoura in Madacasgar but will be back in charge when he returns to South Africa.

This is despite an allegation of rape being made against him by Jennifer Ferguson, a singer and former African National Congress representative.

Former South African referee Ace Ngcobo, who pulled out of the SAFA Presidential race against Jordaan last month, claimed he is expecting at least three more women to press charges in the near future.

SAFA, however, have defended Jordaan, saying that he has been unfairly treated by the media regarding the allegations against him.

They have even gone as far as accusing Ferguson of changing her version of events.

As reported by Eyewitness News, National Executive Committee of the African National Congress member Poobalan Govender-Sammy said: "The worrying tendency of a trial by the media.

"You're all used to this because [former South African President Jacob] Zuma seems to have been tried by the media as well.

"This is outside of established structures."

Alongside the accusation of rape, Jordaan has been accused of maladministration and, according to Phakaaathie, his opponents will soon release a dossier "which will reveal the alleged maladministration at SAFA during his reign".

This will allegedly contain "heavy stuff".
