Krista Parmakoski sprinted to victory at the International Ski Federation Cross Country World Cup in Falun in the final stages of the 10 kilometres classic mass start race today.

The Finn battled her way past Norway's Marit Bjørgen to triumph in 26min 00.50sec in Sweden.

"I started further back today but my body was working great today," Parmakoski said.

"I also had amazing skis. 

"I had a very good grip and I passed many girls in the long downhills."

Bjørgen finished just 0.2 seconds behind in second place.

Her team-mate Ingvild Flugstad Østberg finished 5.1 seconds behind the winning pace in third.

Østberg now lies just 107 points behind team-mate Heidi Weng in the overall standings.

One race remains of the season tomorrow with 50 points available for the winner and a bonus 200 points for the victor over the three races in Falun.

Weng finished a below par 22nd today while United States' Jessie Diggins remains third overall, 41 points behind Østberg, after placing eighth.

Alexander Bolshunov of Russia won the corresponding 15km men's race in 36:59.80.

Calle Halfvarsson of Sweden was second on home snow in 37:01.1

Italy's Francesco De Fabiani finished a further 1.8 seconds back in third.

Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo of Norway only managed 22nd but remains in the overall World Cup lead and has a virtually unbeatable lead.

He is 249 points in front of Switzerland's Dario Cologna before tomorrow's final race.
