Great Britain javelin coach David Burrell has given a four-year suspension from all sport after refusing a drugs test last year.

The 53-year-old has been charged by UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) with "evading, refusing or failing to submit to sample collection" following an out-of-competition test in August 2017.

They ruled that he had "refused, without compelling justification, to submit to sample collection after notification of testing" following a visit to his home address on August 23.

Burrell is principally an assistant coach at Luton Athletics Club but still competes sporadically in masters events.

All of his results from August 23 to October 18 last year will also be annulled.

The suspension will continue until midnight on October 17 in 2021.

Burrell is also the coach of British javelin thrower Joanna Blair.

She was herself provisionally suspended for a doping violation in October last year, blaming a "contaminated" supplement afterwards.

"Any athlete or coach involved in [World Anti-Doping Agency] compliant sports must adhere to their responsibilities which are clearly set out in the anti-doping rules," UKAD chief executive Nicole Sapstead said.

"A failure to comply with sample collection procedures is a serious breach of the anti-doping rules and of athlete/coach responsibilities."
