Rio 2016 Olympic champions Alison Cerutti and Bruno Oscar Schmidt were among the men's pool winners as the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) Beach Volleyball World Tour event at Fort Lauderdale continued.

The pairing were in impressive form at Lauderdale Beach Park Center Court in Florida, as they began the day with a 21-18, 16-21, 15-10 win over Switzerland's Nico Beeler and Marco Krattiger.

They sealed victory in Pool F, as the Brazilian duo secured a 21-18, 21-18 win over The Netherlands' Alexander Brouwer and Robert Meeuwsen, the 2013 world champions.

Cerutti and Schmidt will enjoy a bye through to the last-16 of the tournament having come out on top of their pool.

The duo will face the winners of the elimination round match between Aleksandrs Samoilovs and Janis Smedins of Latvia, and Dries Koekelkoren and Tom Van Walle of Belgium.

Last year's World Tour Finals winners Phil Dalhausser and Nick Lucena also eased into the last-16 stage of the competition.

The Americans emerged as winners of Pool A, after claiming two victories in front of a home crowd.

They first beat Norway's Hendrik Nikolai Mol and Mathias Berntsen 21-15, 21-11, before overcoming Canada's Grant O'Gorman and Ben Saxton 21-15, 21-16.

The women's elimination phase began today, with Brazil's Agatha Bednarczuk and Eduarda "Duda" Lisboa recovering after edging through their pool.

A strong performance saw them overcome Germany's Julia Sude and Chantal Laboureur by a score of 21-12, 21-14.

The Brazilians could prove a major threat later in the competition, should they beat home favourites Laruen Fendrick and Nicole Branagh in arguably the pick of the last-16 matches.

An American pairing is guaranteed to feature in the quarter-finals, after Brooke Sweat and Summer Ross set up a last-16 clash with Sara Hughes and Kelly Claes.

Sweat and Ross battled to a 21-16, 15-21, 15-8 victory over Brazil's Carolina Salgado and Maria Antonelli in their first elimination match.

Competition is set to continue tomorrow.
