Commonwealth Games Wales and Welsh Gymnastics have named a 13-strong squad to compete at Gold Coast 2018 in April.

The rhythmic gymnastics team is headlined by three-time Commonwealth Games medallist Laura Halford, who will compete alongside 2017 British Championship gold medallist Gemma Frizella.

Fifteen-year-old Abigail Hanford completes the rhythmic gymnastics line-up.

Nine-time Northern European Championships medallist Clinton Purnell is one of the leading names on the men's artistic gymnastics team, alongside Glasgow 2014 participant Iwan Mepham.

The duo will be joined by Jac Davies, Josh Cook and Benjamin Eyre.

Wales will be represented in the women's artistic gymnastics event by 2017 British Championships champion Maisie Methuen, Emily Thomas, Latalia Bevan, Holly Jones and Jolie Ruckley, who, along with Hanford on the rhythmic gymnastics team, is in his first year of senior competition.

Helen Phillips, chair of the Commonwealth Games Wales board, congratulated the athletes on their selection.

"I'd like to congratulate the 13 talented gymnasts who have been selected for Wales at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games," she said.

"They have worked extremely hard, with the support of their clubs, their personal coaches, national coaches and their national governing body to get here.

"We wish them the very best when they compete at the Games in a few weeks' time.

"The announcement completes Wales' athlete selection for individual sports, and we look forward to confirming the squad members for team sports very shortly."

Jo Coombs, the head of performance and excellence at Welsh Gymnastics, added: "We are thrilled that so many of our gymnasts are flying out to Australia to represent their country.

"This team announcement is the culmination of four years of hard work, dedication and commitment and we couldn't be prouder of all who have been chosen to compete at the Games."

Gymnastics at Gold Coast 2018 will be hosted at the Coomera Indoor Sports Centre.

The artistic competition will take place from April 5 to 9 before the rhythmic event from April 11 to 13.
