British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) has announced a partnership with global digital identity platform, Yoti.

The agreement will see Yoti become the headline partner for BUCS Big Wednesday, the culmination of the university team sport programme for the year.

A total of 14 sports will feature during the event, which is expected to attract hundreds of fans to the University of Nottingham, which will act as the host of the competition.

BUCS claim Yoti are a perfect fit for the organisation, and stated the company will provide a service to make it easier for students to prove their identity and stay safer online.

"Students can use the free Yoti app as a simple, fast and secure way to prove their identity, online and in person," said Robin Tombs, Yoti chief executive.

"Our partnership with BUCS is a fantastic way for us to connect with students and make it easier for them to get things done and do the things they love."

A total of 52 fixtures will be held across Big Wednesday, which will ring an end to the team sport season.

A range of indoor sports, including basketball and squash, are also set to feature.

Rugby league and football competitions are set to take place at the David Ross Sports Village on University Park campus.

"We are excited to be working with Yoti to create the best possible event experience at BUCS Big Wednesday for our students, who are more technologically aware than ever," said Vince Mayne, BUCS chief executive.

"We can't wait to see what the future holds for this partnership."
