Australians Ellen Ryan and Kristina Krstic moved to the top of the women's singles rankings on home turf at the World Youth Bowls Championships at Broadbeach in Gold Coast.

Ryan overtook New Zealand's Katelyn Inch at the top of the women's section one table thanks to three victories in her three matches today.

She made a good start to the day with a 21-11 win against Jodie McCarthy of Wales before dispatching Malta's Connie Rixon by a 21-6 scoreline.

Her final win came courtesy of a 21-6 success over Angel So of Hong Kong, meaning she sits top of the table with a total of 15 points.

Krstic moved up to the top of the women's section two table after recording four victories, allowing her to move ahead of yesterday's leader Tayla Bruce of New Zealand.

Piwena Karkar of Papua New Guinea was Krstic's first victim of the day as she lost 21-10 to the group leader.

Krstic then went on to beat Ireland's Megan Wilson 21-9 before seeing off Malaysia’s Nur Ain Tarmizi 21-16.

Krstic's final match of the day saw her beat Hong Kong's Yunse Ha by a 21-5 scoreline.

There were no changes at the top of the standings in the men's singles category with Aaron Teys still leading the way in section one with four victories from his four matches.

Fellow Australian Corey Wedlock, however, can consider himself fortunate to still be top of section two after losing twice today.

Wedlock had got off to a good start with 21-18 and 21-4 wins against Gariga Babona of Papua New Guinea and Ireland's John Byrne, respectively.

However, he then suffered a dip in form and lost two on the spin.

His first defeat was inflicted by Malaysia's Daeng Dahasry with Hong Kong's Jason Choi then claiming the second shortly afterwards.

The event continues tomorrow with the mixed pairs event set to return alongside the continuation of the men's and women's singles competitions.

The venue will host competition at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.
