Two Australian pairs lead the way at the World Youth Bowls Championships ©World Bowls

Corey Wedlock and Kristina Krstic have kept their place at the top of the section one table after another good display at the World Youth Bowls Championships at Broadbeach Bowls Club in Gold Coast.

The Australian mixed pairs duo followed up their four victories in yesterday’s competition with another three victories and one draw in today’s matches to ensure they remain top of the table.

They got off to a good start to the day on home turf by beating Yunse Ha and Jason Choi of Hong Kong 19-6 in their opener.

They were stopped, however, in their tracks in their second match as they could only manage a draw against Malaysian pair Nur Ain Tatrmizi and Daeng Dahastry with 16 points apiece.

Despite suffering this setback, Wedlock and Krstic managed to recover to secure victory in their next match with a 28-5 thrashing of Sophie and Connor Rabey of Guernsey before following it up with a 17-10 win over Canadians Pricilla Westlake and Rob Law.

Today’s results mean Wedlock and Krstic remain top of the table on 22 points with a seven-point cushion over Connie Rixon of Malaysia and Cabous Olivier of Namibia, who won all four of their matches today.

Although Wedlock and Krstic kept hold of their lead at the top of section one, the lead in section two changed hands with Australian duo Ellen Ryan and Aaron Teys now topping the table thanks to their three victories today, giving them a points total of 18.

They take the number one spot from yesterday’s leaders Ryan Burnett of Scotland and Shae Wilson of the Norfolk Islands, who lost one and won two of their matches.

The men's and women's competitions are scheduled to begin tomorrow with the mixed pairs event continuing on Wednesday (February 28).

The Broadbeach Bowls Club will host lawn bowls competition at the Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast in April.
