United World Wrestling has signed a four-year strategic partnership with Nike Wrestling and its global distributor Athlete Performance Solutions (APS).

It will see the American sports equipment giant have a presence at all UWW events and in a range of marketing activities.

Nike have also been given the rights to develop, distribute and sell a range of UWW branded merchandise and event-specific products.

The deal will run up until the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

"This is a landmark day for us," said UWW President Nenad Lalovic, a newly-elected member of the International Olympic Committee's Executive Board.

"Teaming up with Nike means we align with a sport brand that strives for excellence and is committed to international wrestling.

"We are looking forward to a great partnership and working with Nike and APS."

APS also distributes for Nike in sports such as boxing, weightlifting, fencing, volleyball, rowing and hockey. 

"It's an honour to partner with the UWW as they continue to modernise and improve the sport of wrestling," said APS President Eddie Brown.

"Our relationship with the UWW will enable Nike to develop deep connections with the global wrestling community. 

"We look forward to engaging with UWW and their athletes, coaches, officials, and National Federations to help us deliver the wrestling community the newest and most innovative products in the world."
