England have named their five-strong wrestling team for April's Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast.

Two members of the squad have had previous Commonwealth Games experience.

One of those is Leon Rattigan, who will wrestle in the 97 kilograms freestyle category.

He has two bronze medals to his name thanks to good performances at Dehli 2010 and Glasgow 2014, and will be competing at his third Commonwealth Games.

George Ramm, a 57kg freestyle entrant, also competed in Glasgow.

Rattigan expressed his excitement at the prospect of competing at a fourth Games.

"It feels great to be selected, I'm really proud to be part of Team England once again," he said.

"Back in Delhi I was one of the youngest on the team and now I'm more of a veteran.

"Hopefully I can give the team some advice and use my experience to help everyone perform to their best.

"It would be nice to get a different colour medal, other than bronze."

Charlie Bowling, Syerus Eslami and Georgina Nelthorpe, who will compete in the 65kg, 86kg and 76kg women's categories respectively, will be making their Commonwealth Games debuts at Gold Coast 2018 and complete the line-up.

Nelthorpe said she was looking forward to her first Games.

"It was unreal to be selected, I'm super proud to be on the team," she said.

"I haven't been to Australia before so it will be a unique experience for me and the competition will be of a really high standard.

"I can't wait to be part of Team England and to get to know all of the other athletes and their sports.

"I definitely want to go for the gold and be the first English female ever to win a Commonwealth gold medal in wrestling but whatever happens the Games are going to be a really great experience."

Wrestling team leader Eddy Kavanagh said he was happy with the team selection.

"We've got Leon Rattigan and George Ramm who have been to the Commonwealth Games before," he said.

"George was just 17 when he competed in Glasgow and that was a great experience for him and we're hopeful he will do really well on the Gold Coast.

"All the new members of the team are under the age of 23 so it bodes well for the future of English and British Wrestling.

"It will be superb for Georgina [Nelthorpe], Syreus [Eslami] and Charlie [Bowling] to be involved in a multi-sport Games.

"Outside of the Olympics, this is the only chance wrestlers get to compete alongside other sports.

"We can't wait to get out to Australia and for the Games to get underway."

England have decreased the number of wrestlers named for their Commonwealth Games squad from the 13 selected to compete at Glasgow 2014.

The wrestling competition at Gold Coast 2018 will take place at the Carrara Sports and Leisure Centre from April 12 to 14.
