United World Wrestling have announced that Sweden will participate at the 2018 Women's World Cup in Takasaki.

Sweden are set to replace Turkey in the competition, which will run in the Japanese city from March 17 to 18.

No reason has been given for Turkey not participating at the event.

It follows their withdrawal from the Men's World Cup competition, with Iran stepping into their place.

Sweden are set to benefit for the Women’s World Cup, which will feature eight of the best wrestling nations.

They had finished in ninth place at the 2017 World Championships, whereas Turkey ended the event in fifth.

The Swedish team are set to join hosts Japan, Belarus, the United States and Mongolia at the competition.

Canada, China and Romania are also among the entries.

The group draw is expected to take place in the coming weeks, with nations being placed into two groups of four.

It will be the 17th edition of the annual competition and the fifth to be held in Japan.

The host nation will be the overwhelming favourites to win the team event, having triumphed at the last three editions.

Their most recent success came against China in Russian city Cheboksary last year.

China are the second most successful nation at the World Cup, having claimed the title on six occasions.

The US are the only other country to triumph, with their solitary success coming back in Tokyo during 2003.
