Czech Republic's Tomáš Staněk has made the journey from Düsseldorf to Madrid as he seeks further success on the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Indoor Tour circuit.

Staněk competed in Germany last night, where he won gold in the men's shot put with a world lead throw of 22.17 metres.

The European indoor silver medallist is now in the Spanish capital Madrid, where the third event of the Tour will take place.

His main challengers at the Gallur Municipal Sports Centre are expected to be Poland's Konrad Bukowiecki and Croatia's Stipe Zunic, who have thrown 21.23m and 21.13m respectively this season.

Elsewhere, Ethiopia's Genzebe Dibaba will return to the Tour having missed the second leg of the competition in Düsseldorf.

She has already made her mark on the series, producing a world leading time of 3min 57.45sec in the women's 1,500m event in Karlsruhe last week.

The world record holder will begin as the clear favourite to claim victory tomorrow, but her compatriot Axumawit Embaye, Germany's Konstanze Klosterhalfen and Poland's European champion Angelika Cichock will hope to cause an upset.

Polish hopes of success could be high, with both of their winners in Düsseldorf scheduled to compete again.

Adam Kszczot prevailed in the men's 800m yesterday, while Piotr Lisek came out on top in an impressive pole vault field.

Cuba's Portuguese-based Pedro Pablo Pichardo and Russia's two-time world champion Maria Lasitskene are set to headline the men's triple jump and women’s high jump competitions, respectively.

The event will be the third leg of the series.

Other IAAF Indoor legs are scheduled for Boston and Torun before the series' conclusion in Glasgow on February 25.

The Indoor Tour is building up to the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Birmingham in March.
