Egypt’s Nour El Tayeb was the biggest winner in the Professional Squash Association (PSA) women’s rankings for January after moving into the top three in the world for the first time.

The 24-year-old produced a strong series of results in the month, including reaching the semi-finals of the inaugural Saudi PSA Women’s Squash Masters.

She followed that display by ending as the runner-up at the J.P. Morgan Tournament of Champions, having lost to compatriot Nour El Sherbini in the final.

It continues El Tayeb’s strong form in recent months after triumphing at the US Open back in October.

The results mean El Tayeb rose four places in the world rankings to third behind fellow Egyptians El Sherini and world champion Raneem El Welily.

El Sherini’s victories at the Saudi PSA Women’s Squash Masters and Tournament of Champions saw her extend her advantage at the top of the rankings.

She is nearly 4,000 points clear of El Welily, who is a further 6,000 ahead of El Tayeb.

England’s Laura Massaro remains in fourth place, with France’s Camille Serme dropping to fifth.

Egypt’s Nouran Gohar and Malaysia’s Nicol David have dropped down to sixth and seventh, with England’s Sarah-Jane Perry, New Zealand’s Joelle King and England’s Alison Waters rounding off the top 10.

In the men’s rankings, Simon Rösner has been rewarded for becoming the first German to win a PSA World Series event.

His triumph at the J.P. Morgan Tournament of Champions resulted in the move to a joint career high ranking of sixth.

The top of the rankings remains largely unchanged.

France’s Gregory Gaultier still holds the number one spot and Egyptians Mohamed ElShorbagy and Ali Farag complete the top three.

Marwan ElShorbagy has moved into a career high fifth, the Egyptian going above compatriot Karim Abdel Gawad.

Rösner is followed by Egypt’s Tarek Momen in seventh, as England’s Nick Matthew, Egypt’s Mohamed Abouelghar and Peru’s Diego Elias complete the top 10.
