Italy’s Michela Moioli and Austria's Julian Lueftner claimed victories on the first day of a double bill of races at the Snowboard Cross World Cup season in Feldberg.

Moioli had earned the top seeding in qualification yesterday, with the World Cup leader then making full use of the ranking by easing through the first two rounds of racing.

Having won both the heats, Moioli then stormed to victory in the big final after leading from start to finish.

"I feel very good, I really get along well with this course, and I'm currently just having the momentum," Moioli said.

"I don't know why but I hope to keep it for the next races."

Canada's Zoe Bergermann finished as the runner-up, securing the second World Cup podium finish of her career.

France's Julia Pereira de Sousa Malibeau completed the podium places, finishing clear of her team-mate Charlotte Bankes.

Moioli extended her World Cup lead as a result of her victory, with her total of 5,630 now 630 clear of second place Chloe Trespeuch.

The men's event saw Lueftner earn a surprise World Cup victory, just weeks after missing out on a place in Austria's team for the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics.

Having reached the semi-final, Lueftner won a photo-finish against Germany's home favourite Konstantin Schad to progress further.

The Austrian then produced a fine run to claim victory, as he moved past France's Olympic champion Pierre Vaultier in the closing stages.

Vaultier ended in second place to further boost his World Cup lead, while his compatriot Ken Vuagnoux secured a first podium finish in third.

The World Cup standings are led by Vaultier on 5,120 points, with Australia’s Alex Pullin second on 4,086.

Competition will continue tomorrow.
