There will be 29 sites spread out between four parks and four stand-alone venues in the Argentinian capital.

The Youth Olympic Centre, which is under construction in the Villa Soldati neighbourhood and will be converted into a world-class centre for high-performing Argentine athletes after the Games, will be the venue for 13 of the 31 sports on the programme, including athletics, gymnastics and swimming.

Located beside the Youth Olympic Centre is the Youth Olympic Village, which Buenos Aires 2018 claims is in the final stage of construction.

It will be home to 3,998 athletes from 206 countries and will house around 7,000 people during the Games, including technical officials and delegation personnel.

In the east of the city, the Urban Park will be used as a temporary venue for disciplines with a strong youth following, such as breaking and sport climbing, both of which will be making their Youth Olympic Games debut at Buenos Aires 2018.

The Green Park, in the north of Buenos Aires, will offer a wide variety of sports, including some of the futsal competitions and tennis.

In the western part of the city, Tecnopolis Park will serve as the main venue for futsal in Argentina, which is home to the most recent world champions of the discipline.

Additionally, fans will be able to watch the young badminton and table tennis elite compete.

In a secondary venue in the neighbouring Parque Sarmiento, competitions for archery, beach handball and shooting will be held.

Among the four stand-alone venues is the Club Naútico San Isidro, which will be used for kiteboarding, sailing and windsurfing. 

The others are the Club Atlético San Isidro, for rugby sevens, Hurlingham Club, for golf, and the Paseo de la Costa in Vicente López, for BMX racing and roller speed skating.

The young athletes will also compete amid what organisers described as a festive environment, with more than 1,000 cultural, educational and sport activities.

Multi-culturalism and gender equality will be two of the main themes of the activities on offer at the Youth Olympic Centre.

The activities programme off the playing field in the Urban Park will focus on a street culture and "Porteño", a term given to the Buenos Aires population, identity.

The Green Park will focus on protecting the environment and healthy habits, while the cultural and educational activities in Tecnopolis Park and Parque Sarmiento will revolve around new technologies, among other themes.

In February 2016, Buenos Aires 2018 chief executive Leandro Larrosa told insidethegames ensuring the new Athletes' Village is ready on time for the event is the main concern for organisers.

The facility is located near the Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club, known as the cathedral of Argentinean tennis which stages an event on the ATP Tour each year.

According to officials, the Athletes' Village is within close walking distance of 50 per cent of the venues which will be used during the third edition of the Summer Youth Olympic Games.

Larrosa feels the location of the Athletes' Village is significant, claiming it will bring social benefits to one of the less-developed areas of the city.

The Games will run between October 6 and 18.
