United States overcame Chile in the Americas men's qualification event to secure a place in the BNP Paribas Wheelchair World Team Cup Finals in March.

The host nation were hoping to avenge their defeat to Chile two days ago at the United States Tennis Association National Campus in Orlando.

Their South American opponents were vying to secure a fourth straight win.

Chris Herman triumphed for the host nation 6-4, 6-4 against Chile's Francisco Cayulef in the opening singles rubber, having taken only five games in their head-to-head battle earlier in the week.

Having beaten Alexander Cataldo in their earlier match, Casey Ratzlaff headed into their second encounter attempting to seal American victory.

He was forced to battle throughout the encounter, as after winning the first set 7-6, Ratzlaff lost the second 6-4.

The American claimed a key break of serve in the decider and held on to secure a 7-6, 4-6, 6-4 victory.

With the host nation having won the tie 2-0, the doubles rubber was not played.

Colombia won the third place play-off by the same score, after winning both their singles matches against Ecuador.

Eliecer Oquendo swept aside Eduardo Lopez 6-2, 6-2 before Manuel Sanchez triumphed against Ecuador's Francisco Beltran by a 6-2, 2-6, 7-6 score.

Argentina had triumphed in the women’s qualifier yesterday, having seen off the challenge of Colombia in a two team competition.

They will head to the BNP World Team Cup finals, which will take place from May 28 to June 3 in Apeldoorn in The Netherlands.

The event will be hosted by the Royal Dutch Lawn Tennis Association.

The Americas competition was the first of the qualifying series.

African qualification is scheduled to place at the Nairobi Club in Kenya and the Asian qualification event will once again be held at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association in Colombo.

The four regional events then conclude with the European qualifications, set to be held for the second successive year in Vilamoura in Portugal, organised by the Federacao Portuguesa de Tenis.
