European Athletics has appointed the former general director of the French Athletics Federation to a key marketing role.

Julien Mauriat will take over as the chief executive of European Athletics Marketing which acts as a service company for the commercial strategies and sales activities of the continental governing body, including sponsor account management and rights delivery.

Mauriat's main role will be to define, develop and commercialise European Athletics commercial strategy across the full portfolio of activities including its events, corporate programmes, communications and development projects.

European Athletics is the sole shareholder of the company so it maintains ownership and control of its commercial properties.

Its Board includes European Athletics Council member Libor Varhanik as President and vice-president Frank Hensel.

It also includes European Athletics chief executive Christian Milz and head of marketing and commercial activities Charles Braun.

"We are very pleased that we have Julien Mauriat on board as the CEO of European Athletics Marketing to create additional values and revenues from our events and activities," Svein Arne Hansen, President of European Athletics, said.

"He has a clear remit to maximise our commercial revenues and increase the visibility and market attractiveness of European Athletics by associating with top international commercial partners, securing long-term partnerships with prestigious companies and brands and developing creative commercial opportunities to generate new and unique revenue streams for our Federation.

“He is tasked with presenting a newly defined commercial strategy and updated business plan to the Board of Directors of European Athletics Marketing for period 2018-2022 that will then be presented to our Council in April 2018."
