A last-minute equaliser salvaged a late point for Serbia and denied hosts Slovenia the perfect start as the two sides played out an entertaining 2-2 draw at the UEFA Futsal Championship in Ljubljana.

Slovenia looked like they were on their way to an opening day win but Dragan Tomić's superb last-gasp side saw Serbia claim a point in the Group A encounter at the Arena Stožice.

Alen Fetić gave the home side the lead after four minutes before Gašper Vrhovec doubled their advantage shortly after.

Serbia found a way back into the contest when Denis Ramić halved the deficit after 17 minutes with a deflected effort.

They then went in search of an equaliser and it came at the death as Tomić found the net with a stunning strike.

It was a similar story in the opening Group B clash as Michał Kubik struck in the dying seconds to earn Poland a 1-1 draw with Russia, who have finished second at the last three editions of the tournament.

When Ivan Chishkala broke the deadlock five minutes from time, 2016 World Cup runners-up Russia were huge favourites to secure victory.

But Poland, playing in their first European Championship finals since 2001, had other ideas as Kubik dramatically levelled in the last seconds of the match.

The tournament continues tomorrow as Portugal play Romania in Group C and defending champions Spain entertain France in Group D.
