Defending overall champion Isabell Werth secured her sixth victory of the International Equestrian Federation World Cup Dressage Western European League with another dominant performance in Amsterdam.

Werth, on board Weihegold, cruised to the summit of the podium with a total of 88.540 points at the RAI Arena.

Dutchman Edward Gal, riding Glock’s Zonik, was a distant second as he scored 81.860.

His performance denied Germany a one-two in the Dutch capital as Werth's team-mate Jessica von Bredow-Werndl, on board Unee BB, finished third with 81.195.

"Weihe was really fantastic today, I can’t describe the feeling of this power and collection, she’s like a metronome - we can do whatever we want," said Werth.

"The atmosphere in the arena was electric so I had to be careful because she was very hot.

"She produced really magnificent piaffe/passage, but I stopped breathing in the collected walk because she was so ready for the canter."

Werth doesn’t earn points at the qualifiers but must compete in at least two legs of the Western European League with the horse she intends to take to the Final in Paris in April.

The 48-year-old, a six-time Olympic champion, has already participated in two events with Weihegold and has won them both, leaving her in good stead prior to the Final in Paris in April.

Sweden's Patrik Kittel is the current overall leader on 74 points, 15 in front of Von Bredow-Werndl.

Dorothee Schneider, also of Germany, is third on 55.
