Home favourite Dylan Alcott secured his fourth consecutive wheelchair quad singles Australian Open title as he beat arch-rival David Wagner of the United States in Melbourne.

Alcott dispatched Wagner 7-6, 6-1 in a one-sided final to continue his remarkable run at the tournament in his home country.

Shingo Kunieda of Japan claimed the men's singles title as he fought back from a set down to overcome Frenchman Stephane Houdet 4-6, 6-1, 7-6.

The women's crown was sealed by Dutch player Diede de Groot, who bounced back from her doubles disappointment yesterday with a 7-6, 6-4 win against Japanese top seed Yui Kamiji.

The majority of the crowd inside the Rod Laver Arena were hoping Alcott could maintain his dominant streak in the quad singles final.

Wagner came into the event as the top seed and was keen to spoil the party but found Alcott in dominant form.

The Australian, the reigning Paralympic champion in quad singles and doubles, battled through a tough opening before claiming the first set on a tie-break.

The 27-year-old improved in the second and proved far too strong for the American, eventually wrapping up victory in 90 minutes.

"Wheelchair tennis is becoming normal now which is what I wanted," Alcott said.

"Did you see how many kids with disabilities were there today?

"It was so awesome to see that.”

“Hopefully for the next generation of athletes with disabilities, it’ll be easier for them because of me.”
