Volunteers at this year's Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast will receive "exclusive invitations" to dress rehearsals for the Opening Ceremony, it was announced today.

Commonwealth Games Minister Kate Jones revealed the Gold Coast 2018 "Games Shapers" would be among the first to get a glimpse of the Ceremony.

The two rehearsals are scheduled to take place on March 31 and April 2, with the Opening Ceremony due to be held at the Carrara Stadium on April 4.

It came as Gold Coast 2018 officially opened the uniform and accreditation centre at Burleigh.

Gold Coast 2018 are expecting 15,000 volunteers to collect their uniform from next week.

"Invitations will be issued today asking volunteers to book into a session to collect their bright, bold and beautiful Hard Yakka designed uniforms," Gold Coast 2018 chairman Peter Beattie said.

"Opening this venue is another milestone ahead of the Games and everyone who visits the UAC will appreciate the scale of the task at hand.

"For many, getting the uniform is a Games highlight and we'd ask volunteers to book their time in as soon as possible to help our team of 50 volunteers and staff onsite work through the logistics of the operation.

"We have more than 200,000 pieces of uniform kit to be allocated along with accreditation which will get our Games Shapers onto free public transport and into venues during Gold Coast 2018 so they can help deliver a great Games for athletes, officials and spectators.

"In total our 15,000 volunteers will complete 130,000 shifts which equates to around one million hours of services and to be frank, they are the heart and soul of the Games, and this event couldn't be held without them."
