The National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK) say they have received the first consignment of the team's kit for the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast.

NOCK President Paul Tergat, a former marathon world record holder who was elected to the role in September 2017, also confirmed that the rest of the athletes' kits will arrive early next month.

"I am happy that the first consignment of the kits for Team Kenya for the Commonwealth Games have arrived and we hope that by the first week of February we should have received all the other consignments," he said.

"We are indebted to ensuring that all the kits are available before the team travels so that we can make our sportsmen happy and motivate them to compete for our country."

NOCK were mired in kit controversy after the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro when former vice chairman and deputy Chef de Mission Ben Ekumbo was arrested for stealing after large amounts of stolen kit were reportedly found at his house in Nairobi.

The former head of the Kenya Swimming Federation was reportedly found "hiding under his bed" when his home was raided in November 2016.

It has also been announced that Athletics Kenya will name its marathon teams for the Games tomorrow (January 24) after the initial announcement was delayed by a week.

Athletics trials will then be conducted on February 16, allowing the team to have adequate preparation time.

The Boxing Association of Kenya are also expected to name their squad in early February.

Kenya will be represented in 15 sports in Gold Coast and will be looking to increase their medal tally of 25 from Glasgow 2014.

The Games will take place from April 4 to 15.
