Hosts Morocco and Sudan each progressed from Group A at the African Nations Championship after a 0-0 draw today in Casablanca.

Morocco dominated throughout at the Stade Mohamed V but were unable to break down spirited opposition.

Achraf Bencharki had a second-half penalty saved as Akram El Hadi Salim starred in the Sudan goal.

Morocco topped the group, though, on goal differences.

Guinea defeated Mauritania 1-0 in the group's other game between two already-eliminated teams at the Stade de Marrakech. 

Captain Ibrahima Sory Sankhon scored the only goal of the game after 15 minutes.

Namibia and Zambia, the top two and already qualified teams in Group B, are due clash tomorrow at the Stade Mohamed V to determine who will face both Morocco and Sudan in the quarter-finals.

The tournament was initially due to be held in Kenya but the Confederation of African Football stripped the country of the event as a result of infrastructure concerns.

Morocco, which is bidding for the 2026 World Cup against a joint effort from the United States, Canada and Mexico, was then announced as Kenya's replacement.
