Amateur cycling squad Team KGF claimed the gold medal on the final day of the International Cycling Union Track Cycling World Cup in Minsk today.

Charlie Tanfield had claimed an impressive victory in the individual pursuit yesterday and returned as part of the Team KGF line-up for the team pursuit at the Minsk Arena. 

The British champions, who also featured Daniel Bigham, Harry Tanfield and Jonathan Wale, achieved a time of 1min 3.429sec in the final to secure victory. 

They overcame the challenge of the Lokosphinx team from Russia, who narrowly ended as silver medallists in 1:03.613.

Russia rounded off the podium places as they achieved a time of 4:00.501 in the bronze medal ride against France.

Dutch rider Matthijs Buchli won the men’s sprint competition after he triumphing in straight rides against Vasilijus Lendel of Lithuania in the final.

The bronze medal was earned by Buchli’s compatriot Theo Bos, who won both races against Poland’s Mateusz Rudyk.

There was further Dutch success in the men’s omnium competition with Jan-Willem van Schip triumphing at the end of the four discipline event.

Having won the scratch and tempo races, the 23-year-old topped the standings at the halfway stage.

He remained in pole position by finishing third in the elimination race before sealing the victory by finishing the points race on a total of 134.

Poland’s Szymon Sajnok finished five points adrift to earn silver, with Loksoshpinx’s Russian rider Mamyr Stash completing the top three on 110 points.

The final men’s event of the World Cup saw Portugal’s Ivo Oliveira triumph in the men’s 15 kilometre scratch race.

He finished clear of Yauheni Karaliok of Belarus, who settled for the silver medal in front of a home crowd.

Germany’s Pauline Sophie Grabosch and Emma Hinze secured victory in the women’s team sprint competition.

The pair achieved a time of 33.175sec in the gold medal ride, with Lithuania’s Migle Marozaite and Simona Krupeckaite earning silver medals.

South Korea’s Kim Wongyeong and Lee Hye-jin won the bronze medals after they beat Guo Yufang and Bao Shanju of China.

Lee would also add to the bronze medal in the women’s keirin event as she finished as the runner-up to Belgium’s Nicky Degrendele.

Ukraine’s Liubov Basova rounded off the podium.

Italy’s Letizia Paternoster and Maria Confalonieri won the women’s Madison after they achieved a total of 29 points in the 20km event.

The Netherlands’ Kirsten Wild and Amy Pieters claimed the silver medals on 26 points and Russia’s Maria Novolodskaya and Olga Zabelinskaya won bronzd with 25.
