Defending women’s World Champions France followed up their International Ski Federation (FIS) Snowboard Cross World Cup win in Montafon last month with victory in the team snowboard cross event in Erzurum.

As was the case at the Austrian venue a few weeks ago, Moenne Loccoz, fourth in yesterday’s individual event, started the race in Turkey magnificently for France, surpassing her rivals with ease.

This allowed team mate Chloé Trespeuch to cross the finish line unchallenged.

The women’s podium was completed by Vendula Hopjakova and Eva Samková of the Czech Republic and Canadian duo Meryeta Odine and Zoe Bergermann, who finished second and third respectively.

The men’s final was a far more competitive affair, with the lead constantly changing hands.

The United States and Austria controlled the first half of the finals, however, Italy’s Emanuel Perathoner put in a superb performance to move his team up from fourth to second, giving his in-form team mate Omar Visintin the chance to clinch the gold medal for his team.

Visintin used the momentum he has gained from winning the last two individual events on the World Cup calendar to ensure this weekend's team title went to Italy.

Austria, whose team consisted of Alessandro Haemmerle and Markus Chairer, finished second with Alex Deibold and Nate Holland of the US rounding off the podium.

Austria managed to take the overall rankings lead, despite finishing only second today, as Spanish duo Regino Hernandez and Lucas Eguibar, who had led the rankings going into the weekend, could only finish fourth.

The FIS Snowboard World Cup women’s giant parallel slalom event on Rogla, a peak on Zreče Pohorje mountain in Slovenia, saw Germany’s Ramona Theresia Hofmeister take advantage of current rankings leader Ester Ledecká's, Czech Republic, absence as she took her second World Cup title of the season across all disciplines.

Austria's Sabine Schöffmann claimed the silver medal with Alena Zavarzina of Russia taking bronze.

The men’s giant parallel slalom competition was won by Benjamin Karl from Austria, who improved on yesterday's bronze medal by claiming gold in today’s race.

Last year's overall parallel giant slalom champion Radoslav Yankov of Bulgaria claimed the silver medal with Italy's Roland Fischnaller completing the podium lineup in third.

This was four-time Olympian Fischnaller's first World Cup medal since winning the classic slalom event on home snow in Cortina d'Ampezzo last month.

All the snowboard athletes will now due to head to Bansko in Bulgaria for the next competition of the World Cup tour, scheduled to start on Friday (January 26) and finish on Sunday (January 28).
