China’s Wang Manyu produced the performance of the day at International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Hungarian Open in Budapest as she reached the women’s final with successive wins over two more favoured compatriots - top seed and world number one Chen Meng, followed by defending champion Chen Xingtong.

In tomorrow’s final at the Budapest Olympic Hall, Wang Manyu is due to face another Chinese player, Sun Yingsha, who disposed of Hong Kong’s Ho Ching Lee and Taipei’s Szu-Yu Chen in her two matches today.

Seeded sixth, Wang Manyu was higher in the rankings than the defending champion, but Chen Xingtong was not about to part with her title easily, and their match went the full distance before Wang progressed 12-14, 13-11, 11-8, 11-13, 15-13, 9-11, 11-5 in in an event that is part of the ITTF World Tour.

"The match was a very intensive and hard for me, we both played at a very high level," Wang said.

"The turning point of the match was in game five when I recovered from being 2-6 down - I felt I could win this match."

Wang had required two fewer sets to win her quarter-final against Chen Meng, who beat her in the final in Qatar and Australia in last year’s  ITTF World Tour.

This time Wang prevailed 11-8, 7-11, 14-12, 13-11, 11-7.

The men’s singles went more to form as China’s top seed Fan Zhendong reached tomorrow’s final, where he will meet fellow countryman Chuqin Wang.

Fan had won his morning quarter-final against Sweden’s Kristian Karlsson 9-11, 11-6, 11-8, 11-9, 11-6, and he reached the final with an 11-8, 9-11, 11-7, 11-8, 11-5 win over Brazil’s Hugo Calderano.

The other finalist came through matches against Taipei’s Chien-An Chen, by 11-9, 11-6, 11-5, 11-6, and then fellow Chinese qualifier Liu Dingshuo, whom he beat 11-7, 8-11, 11-7, 6-11, 13-11, 11-7.
