Angola defeated Cameroon 1-0 at Stade Adrar in Agadir to all but secure qualification from Group D at the African Nations Championship.

Midfielder Ricardo Job Estévão, who plays his domestic football for Petro Luanda in the Angolan capital Luanda, calmly slotted home a right-footed penalty in the 30th minute for his Angola side after Senagalese referee Maguette Ndiaye blew for a foul on Angolan forward Vladimir Etson Antonio Felix by Cameroonian defender Bertrand Owundi Eko'o.

Having had such a poor tournament so far with no points to their name, Cameroon were unable to rally from this point, which allowed Angola to secure a relatively comfortable win in the Moroccan city.

A draw for Angola in their next match against Congo will secure their quarter-final place.

Questions will no doubt be asked of Cameroon coach Rigobert Song, a former international footballer who played at the highest level in over four countries, who opted to use just two of his possible three substitutes in the game, despite being behind for most of the match.

Cameroon have now been eliminated from the tournament for home-based African players.

This win for Angola meant Congo's place in the quarter-final was all but confirmed before their match against Burkina Faso.

Congo went onto confirm their place in the next round with a 2-0 victory over their Burkinese opponents, who held Angola to a draw in their opening match, in the late kick-off thanks to goals from Carof Bakoua and Kader Bidimbou.

A draw in the upcoming match with Angola will ensure they top the group in the final standings.
