Organisers of the International Ski Federation Nordic Combined World Cup in Chaux-Neuve are confident the event will go ahead as planned following stormy weather in the French resort this week.

Heavy snow has fallen on the venue, with forecasts suggesting more could follow on the two days of competition.

It has led to concerns about whether the event, scheduled to begin tomorrow and conclude on Sunday (January 21), will take place.

Organisers have insisted, however, that the facilities will be "well-prepared" when the individual competition is staged tomorrow.

The team event then brings the latest Nordic Combined World Cup of the season to a close the following day.

Jan Schmid of Norway comes into the weekend as the overall leader and extended his advantage with victory in Val di Fiemme last Sunday (January 14).

The Norwegian athlete has a total of 483 points, 76 in front of nearest challenger and reigning world champion Johannes Rydzek of Germany.

Akito Watabe of Japan follows in third place having amassed 365 points so far this season.

A healthy crowd is expected to attend the two days of competition, with home star Jason Lamy-Chappuis among those set to participate.

Lamy-Chappuis, the Olympic 10 kilometres normal hill gold medallist at Vancouver 2010, made his competitive return from injury in Val di Fiemme.

The 31-year-old had endured a short absence from the sport after suffering a small fracture in his knee and finished 39th in last Sunday's competition.
