Swimming Canada have announced that they will be sending 11 Para-swimmers to the upcoming Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast.

The team contains eight members of the Paralympic Games team that competed at Rio 2016, including quadruple world-record holder Aurélie Rivard.

She won four medals - three gold and a silver - at 2016 and carried Canada's flag at the Closing Ceremony.

Rivard has been named alongside Katarina Roxon and Tess Routliffe, winners of gold and silver medals at Rio 2016.

Morgan Bird, Sarah Girard, Sarah Mehain, Samantha Ryan, Abi Tripp Jean-Michel Lavallière, Philippe Vachon and Zach Zona complete the line-up.

It means Canada’s total swimming contingent for Gold Coast 2018 now totals 37 athletes, the most they have ever sent to a Commonwealth Games.

This year's event is due to take place from April 4 until 15.

"The 11 swimmers who will compete in the Para-swimming events in the pool bring a wealth of international experience to the team," Swimming Canada high performance director John Atkinson said.

Canada’s Chef de Mission Claire Carver-Dias added: "We congratulate all of the Para-swimmers on their nomination and look forward to cheering them on in April at the Games."

It has also been announced that experienced Para-swimming coach Mike Thompson will be joining the team.
