Table tennis players Dexter St Louis and Rheann Chung have been given a boost in their bid to overturn their controversial omission from Trinidad and Tobago's team for this year's Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast after a judge granted an injunction.

The duo took their protest to the High Court after the Trinidad and Tobago Table Tennis Association (TTTTA) did not select them to represent the country at Gold Coast 2018.

St Louis and Chung are seeking compensation for breach of contract, conspiracy and/or unlawful interference.

The TTTTA insist, however, that the French-based players did not meet their selection criteria.

They instead chose Aaron Wilson and Yuvraaj Dookram to compete in table tennis at the Games, scheduled to run from April 4 to 15 in the Australian city.

The TTTTA also claim both St Louis and Chung were informed of the selection criteria, which details how players must have competed in at least one tournament each year on the governing body's calendar, by email and chose not to respond.

The interim injunction, granted by Justice Eleanor Donaldson-Honeywell, prevents the TTTTA from taking further action on the selection issue.

It will stay in place until the next hearing in the case takes place in Port of Spain on January 24.

St Louis and Chung, the country's most decorated table tennis players, are also calling for the issue to be resolved through the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee's arbitration process.

St Louis, who is Chung's stepfather, is a two-time Olympian.

Both Chung and 49-year-old St Louis have won five Caribbean Championship titles.

The row represents the latest dispute between the two players and the national governing body as St Louis' selection for the 2015 Caribbean Championships in Martinique was overturned.

Chung was also omitted from Trinidad and Tobago's squad for the Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships in India in the same year.
