Figure skater Nathan Chen, weightlifter Sarah Robles and ice dancers Maia and Alex Shibutani received accolades from the United States Olympic Committee for their performances in December.

Chen, the 2017 Four Continents champion, was recognised with the men's award in the Best of December competition for his excellent end to the autumn season.

The ice skater won the top prize in the men's singles at the International Skating Union's Grand Prix Final in Nagoya, Japan.

This result made Chen the youngest American male to medal in the final of the event.

He was also the only undefeated man during the 2017 Grand Prix tour, winning the Rostelecom Cup and Skate America in addition to his success in Nagoya.

Robles received her women's award after dominating the women's super-heavyweight event at the International Weightlifting Federation World Championships on home soil in Anaheim.

The Rio 2016 Olympic bronze medallist won three golds at the competition in each of the snatch, clean and jerk and total events, making her the first American weightlifting world champion since Robin Byrd in 1994.

She is also the first World Championship winner from the US since the sport became part of the Olympic programme in 2000.

The Shibutani siblings were given the team award after finishing an excellent 2017 autumn campaign with a bronze medal at the Grand Prix Final, the same competition where Chen won gold in the men's singles.

The duo have finished on the podium at every international competition since the beginning of 2016.
