Germany's second team of Vinzenz Geiger and Eric Frenzel got the better of compatriots Johannes Rydzek and Fabian Rießle to win the team sprint at the International Ski Federation Nordic Combined World Cup in Val di Fiemme.

Geiger outsprinted world champion Rydzek as he finished 0.7 seconds in front of his fellow countryman in the Italian resort.

Rydzek and Rießle, billed as the German first team, were forced to settle for the silver medal, while a photo finish was needed to decide third place.

Magnus Moan and Mikko Kokslien of Norway just about edged it thanks to the former edging Eero Hirvonen of Finland, who was partnered with Ilkka Herola.

Geiger and Frenzel had the lead going into the cross-country skiing section of the event following a strong performance in the ski jumping.
