Norway’s Andreas Stjernen earned his maiden International Ski Federation Ski Jumping World Cup victory in Tauplitz, Austria.

The 29-year-old produced a first round jump of 229 metres in the competition to top the standings at the halfway mark.

He followed up his opening leap with an effort of 226m in the second round, giving him a final total of 407.6 points.

It proved enough to hold off the challenge of his fellow Norwegian Daniel Andre Tande, who moved from seventh up to second.

His ascent followed a leap of 240.5m in the second round of the competition, which helped give Tande a final score of 405.1.

The podium was rounded off by Switzerland’s Simon Ammann, who ended the event with a tally of 399.9 points.

The result had little effect at the top of the World Cup standings, with Poland’s Kamil Stoch currently leading the way on 733 points.

He is followed by Germany’s Richard Freitag, who was unable to compete at the event as he continues to recover from injury.

A second World Cup event is due to take place in Tauplitz tomorrow.
