Sweden secured their eighth Women’s Bandy World Championship in beating Russia 1-0 in a tight affair in China.

Camilla Johansson scored the only goal in front of 2,000 spectators in temperatures around 1-degree Celsius on a frozen lake in the Chinese city of Chengde.

Johansson’s goal came just three minutes before the half-time break with the first 42 minutes of action mostly played around the midfield areas with very few chances for either side.

Sweden promptly changed tactics and shut up shop following their goal and managed to keep a clean sheet in the second half to claim their eighth title in the last nine editions of the tournament.

The bronze medal final between Norway and Finland saw far more goal action with the Norwegians claiming a 5-2 victory to secure the medal for the second consecutive time.

Finland, who won bronze in 2014, were 2-1 up at half-time but collapsed in the second half, conceding four goals without reply.

The next Federation of International Bandy event will be the World Championships between 29 January to 4 February, in Khabarovsk, Russia.

The tournament will see Hungary compete in an international bandy competition for the first time.
