Double world champion Stefan Kraft is among the seven athletes named on Austria's team for their home International Ski Federation (FIS) Ski Jumping World Cup in Bad Mitterndorf, where action is due to begin tomorrow.

Kraft, who won men's individual normal and large hill gold at the 2017 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships, is joined on the team for the first ski flying event of the season by Michael Hayoeck, Gregor Schlierenzauer, Clemens Aigner, Daniel Huber, Manuel Poppinger and Florian Altenburger.

Altenburger replaces Manuel Fettner, who intends to train in Innsbruck in Austria and Predazzo in Italy in order to get in shape for next month's Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympic Games.

The three-day event, which begins with qualification tomorrow, comes on the back of Austria posting numerous disappointing results during the recent Four Hills Tournament.

"After the Four Hills Tournament, we are now fully focused on the ski flying competition on the Kulm hill," head coach Heinz Kuttin said.

"We are looking ahead now and we are looking forward to this next task.

"We have some good ski flyers on our team and I'm excited to see what the Kulm has in store for us."

Kraft, the defending World Cup champion, ended the Four Hills Tournament on a positive note, with a fourth-placed finish in front of a home crowd in Bischofshofen.

It followed 31st and 24th-placed finishes in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Germany and Innsbruck respectively.

"I've been looking forward to this event all year," Kraft said.

"Ski flying is a lot of fun and I'm sure that there will be a lot of positive emotions again."

One athlete unable to compete in Bad Mitterndorf is Germany's Richard Freitag, who fell during the Four Hills Tournament in Innsbruck and is not able to jump yet due to pain in his hip.

Freitag is still hopeful of competing at the FIS Ski Flying World Championships in Oberstdorf in Germany from January 18 to 21.

He is second in the World Cup standings behind Poland's Four Hills winner Kamil Stoch.

The Women's Ski Jumping World Cup season is also due to resume tomorrow in Japanese city Sapporo.

Norway's Maren Lundby and Germany's Katharina Althaus are currently joint top of the World Cup standings with 360 points.

Japan's defending champion Sara Takanashi is third with 220 points.

Sapporo, which played host to last year's Asian Winter Games, is among the cities considering mounting bids for the 2026 Winter Olympics.

Tomorrow's qualification will be followed by events on Saturday (January 13) and Sunday (January 14).
