EFM Global Logistics has been unveiled as a national supplier for the 2018 International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Indoor Championships in Birmingham.

The logistics specialist has extensive experience of working at various sporting events, including the 2017 IAAF World Championships and World Para Athletics Championships in London, and last year’s Rugby League World Cup in Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea.

EFM's role will include customs clearance, baggage and equipment handling, transportation, freight forwarding and integrated logistical support to the 2018 IAAF World Indoor Championships, its partners, sponsors, suppliers, media and athletes.

"Managing logistics is a vital, often unseen, element of delivering a successful major event," Championships director Joan Durose said.

"With more than 500 athletes from 150 countries expected to come to Birmingham for the Championships, as well as hundreds of coaches, officials and associated equipment, it is crucial that we have a smooth operation.

"We are therefore delighted to have secured EFM, with their wide experience and expertise, and we look forward to working with them to ensure the efficient running of the Championships."

Since 2000, EFM has provided project logistics, freight and transportation solutions to the live events industry, including some of the biggest names in sport, music, automotive, broadcasting and performing arts.

"We're delighted to support the IAAF World Indoor Championships in delivering a world class event to a global audience, with our appointment as a national supplier," Lisa Ryan, EFM’s group chief commercial officer, said

"It is very exciting for our team to be involved in this prestigious sporting event and we bring along our extensive major sporting event experience, which will ensure a smooth running logistical operation for all concerned."

The 2018 IAAF World Indoor Championships, which are due to be held at the Arena Birmingham from March 1 to 4, is jointly organised by Birmingham City Council and British Athletics on behalf of the IAAF.

Some tickets are still available for the first two sessions of the Championships; on the evening of March 1 and the morning of March 2.

The opening night’s action will feature three straight finals, with medals in the women’s high jump, men’s high jump and women’s 3,000 metres all up for grabs.

EFM Global Logistics joins Strathmore Water and The Ticket Factory in becoming a national supplier for the 2018 IAAF World Indoor Championships.

In October, the IAAF claimed it is confident that preparations for the event are on track following a two-day visit to the Arena Birmingham by 14 staff members.
