Danny Noppert made an ideal start to his participation in the main draw of the 2018 British Darts Organisation World Championship by easing into the second round.

The Dutchman will be hoping to build on his performance at last year's event, where he reached the final before suffering defeat to England's Glen Durrant.

Noppert proved untroubled by his first round opponent Richie Edwards of Wales at the Lakeside Country Club in England's Frimley Green.

He cruised to a victory in straight sets, winning 3-0 in the best-of-five contest.

Having been forced to take part in the preliminary round of the Championships, Noppert will be relieved to have progressed without difficulty to date.

The Dutch player will now face an intriguing contest against tournament second seed Mark McGeeney of England in the second round.

In a preliminary round match, Germany's Michael Unterbuchner emerged as a 3-2 winner against Canada's David Cameron.

England's Daniel Day then secured a 3-0 win over New Zealand's Craig Caldwell.

The two victors will be in first round action tomorrow, with Unterbuchner poised to face third seed Jamie Hughes of England, while Day will take on Wales' Martin Phillips.
