Polish ski jumper Jan Ziobro has opted to "suspend" his career after claiming there are people in the sport who want to "destroy" him.

The 26-year-old World Championship bronze medallist posted his frustrations in a video message which was reported by skijumping.pl and the International Ski Federation (FIS) website.

"It's not that I don't want to jump, but it doesn't make sense to continue the career because there are people who want to destroy me as a ski jumper," he said.

"There are a number of decisions that were scandalous.

"For a long time, obstacles were thrown in my path."

Ziobro said he was not selected for a Continental Cup competition in Titisee-Neustadt in Germany despite recording longer jumps than a team-mate who was picked.

"Before New Year we were jumping in Zakopane," he said.

"I had jumped between 122 metres and 126m.

"Andrzej Stekala, to whom I want to apologise because I don't have anything against him, landed between 105m and 110m.

"But it was not me who got named to the team for these competitions.

"I can no longer remain silent and I have to speak about it in public.

"Some might ask why I suspended my career, but nobody knows what was going on.

"All are equal, but some are more equal than others.

"This is not acceptable.

"For now, I say goodbye to ski jumping.

"This was not an isolated case."

Ziobro won an FIS World Cup competition in Engelberg in 2013 but has not made an impact on this year's circuit.

He won his World Championship bronze in the team competition in Falun in Sweden in 2015.

"Janek is a very big talent," Apoloniusz Tajner, the President of the Polish Ski Association said, as reported by skijumping.pl.

"In the past, he won one World Cup competition, and for this to happen, you need to represent a high level.

"I have already replied to Janek in writing.

"It would be a pity to lose Janek."
