USA Baseball have signed a partnership with the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) in a bid to improve standards.

The aim of the deal is "to create a higher standard of coaching education and enhance the ability of coaches at all levels of the game to better serve their athletes, teams and communities".

Both parties will now work together to "provide a comprehensive programme that combines online and in-person learning opportunities for baseball coaches".

World Series champion A.J Hinch, now the manager of Major League Baseball side Houston Astros, made the announcement of the partnership at the ABCA National Convention.

"Coaches are the bedrock of player development and the player experience and that's why this partnership is so important to me and critical to our game," Hinch said.

The partnership will now be exhibited at the annual ABCA convention, the largest for baseball coaches in the world.

It will also be hosted online by the USA Baseball Education Center.

Four online coaching courses had already been released by the two organisations in November.

"This partnership brings together the two organisations best positioned to support the commitment of baseball coaches at all levels of the amateur game," said Rick Riccobono, USA Baseball's chief development officer.

"We are thrilled to be working with the dedicated team at the ABCA, and look forward to expanding our coaching education platform in the coming months and years.

"Better coaches means a better future for America's pastime."

ABCA executive director Craig Keilitz added: "We couldn't be more excited about the possibilities of the partnership between the ABCA and USA Baseball.

"Between the two organisations, there are so many different assets - whether they are clinics, the education center, other videos, podcasts, Inside Pitch Magazine - and we are planning to leverage those into the most comprehensive baseball coaching education programme to date."

Men's baseball, as well as women's softball, will make its return to the Olympic programme at Tokyo 2020 after being dropped following Beijing 2008.
