World Taekwondo Europe (WTE) has said the 18 Europeans appointed to serve on World Taekwondo Committees will be an "asset".

The organisation has claimed that each of the appointees has a specialist field, and will provide "expertise and specialised guidance".

They will also "consider whether certain operational fields can be improved, either by changing aspects of existing structure or through broader vision", the organisation said.

Philippe Bouedo and Gentil Pascal of France have been appointed chair of the Education Committee and co-chair of the Athletes' Committee respectively, while Belgium's Luc Reychler will be the chair of the Ethics Committee.

Laurence Rase of Belgium and Lisa Lents from Denmark will join the Women in Taekwondo Committee.

Furthermore, the entirety of the Media Committee will come from European countries, with Israel's Michel Madar as chair and Effie Zikouli of Greece as vice-chair.

Concerning Para-Taekwondo, which will make its Paralympic debut at Tokyo 2020, Usman Dildar of Britain has been appointed chair of the Games whilst Sweden's Chakir Chelbat has taken up the role of chair of the Technical and Referees Committee.

A WTE statement said that the new appointees' mission is to "set the standards for World Taekwondo development across the globe and communicate the transformative power of the sport, aligned to the Olympic values and spirit".

They will all be an "asset", the organisation said.

"The appointees are committed to creating and sustaining the conditions that will enable taekwondo across all disciplines, and pass the sport to a new era of an unparalleled journey that is operationally, socially, and individually transformative," WTE said.
