The International Ski Federation (FIS) has confirmed that today’s qualifiers for the Freestyle Skiing Ski Cross World Cup event in Montafon have been cancelled due to bad weather conditions.

Men's and women's qualification is now scheduled to take place tomorrow, prior to the finals in the Austrian resort.

Organisers had hoped earlier today that training could still be held, but FIS Freestyle later tweeted: "No chance to run anything at @SiMontafon today - training and qualifiers for #CrossAlpsTour stop cancelled".

An updated programme for tomorrow has been released following an FIS Technical Committee meeting.

The situation comes on the back of the cancellation of the finals event in Arosa in Switzerland on Tuesday (December 12).

That was called off due to poor weather conditions, which the FIS believed put the safety of the athletes at risk.

It meant that the qualifying results became the official event results.

Olympic champions Jean-Frédéric Chapuis of France and Marielle Thompson of Canada won the respective men’s and women’s events in Montafon last year.
