Guatemala’s Jasmin Gabriela Soto earned women’s individual time trial gold as the Central American Games continued in Managua, Nicaragua.

She proved the dominant rider in the competition, which took riders from Avenida Bolivar to Chavez.

Soto completed the course in a time of 40min 14sec to secure the gold, with Natalia Navarro of Costa Rica ending as the silver medallist.

The podium was completed by María Vargas of Costa Rica, leaving the host nation’s Arlen Pérez out of the medal places in fourth.

"Well, I feel very proud and happy to win another gold medal for Guatemala,” Soto said.

“This is the result of sacrifice in training and we hope to continue bringing joy to my country.”

Manuel Rodas added to Guatemala’s gold medal count in the men’s race, winning the competition in a time of 46:07.

He was followed by José Rodríguez from Costa Rica and Panama’s Christofer Jurado, who managed times of 46:12 and 47:40 respectively.

Hosts Nicaragua were able to celebrate two gold medals on the final day of taekwondo competition, with Solansh Vargas beating Honduras Sidney Vicente in the men’s 49 kilogram event.

His success was followed by a victory for Leonor Rojas in the women’s over 73kg event, overcoming Honduras’ Keyla Avila in the final.

Guatemala’s Juan Herrara was crowned winner of the men’s over 87kg competition as he saw off the challenge of El Salvador’s Alan Rodriquez.

Francisco Rodriquez was able to go one step further than his compatriot, with the El Salvador athlete beating Honduras’ Yiektsack Vicente of Honduras.

The Games will take place tomorrow.
