Pyha will host the third World Para Snowboard World Cup event of the season, with the event scheduled to begin tomorrow.

It will be the first World Cup of the season to feature snowboard cross.

Action in Finland will take place over three days, with competition drawing to a conclusion on December 1.

The resort is known for its high quality snowboard cross courses, with the main training slope named polar madness, due to its ability to test riders.

Pyha was also named as Ski Resort of the Year earlier this year, but will now play host to fierce competition.

Denmark’s Daniel Wagner will be among the field for the competition as he seeks to earn a Pyeongchang 2018 Paralympic Games spot.

The 24-year-old is a world champion in the long jump, but claimed a snowboard bronze medal at the World Championships back in 2015.

“I wanted to use my disability so that’s why I chose snowboard because I’m forced to have both legs in the snowboard,” said Wagner.

“And that’s why is started it. In 2014, I found out it came on the Paralympic programme and there was a lot of competition and then I thought OK why not go for it and see how it goes.

“And I’ve never regretted that since.”

The event is the third Para Snowboard World Cup of the season, with the opening competitions having been banked slalom races.

The fourth and final World Cup will be a snowboard cross and banked slalom event at Big White in Canada, which will take place from February 5 to 8.
