Taekwondo Canada has extended the deadline for bidders interested in hosting editions of two major events in the country.

Cities hoping to stage the Canadian National Championships and Canada Open now have until December 15 to put themselves forward.

This is an extension of two weeks compared to the previous deadline.

Bidding is open for the National Championships in 2019 and 2020 and the Canada Open in 2018, 2019 and 2020.

Taekwondo Canada plans to announce a shortlist of candidates on January 5 before final decisions are revealed on January 31.

The National Championships are described as the premier national level taekwondo event in the country.

It is open to all of Taekwondo Canada's athletes.

The Canada Open is the signature annual international event hosted by the governing body, and is sanctioned by World Taekwondo.

Athletes competing are able to accumulate points towards their world and Olympic rankings.

It has taken place every year since 2012 and allows Canadians to test themselves against world class opponents.
